The Swedish Automobile Association, hereafter M Sverige, is the only Swedish organisation that independently advocates for the interests of everyone who relies on the car for work and leisure.

M Sverige influences public opinion

M Sverige engages in active dialogue with politicians and decision-makers on issues that affect the everyday lives of motorists. Our advocacy includes opinion pieces in the media, direct engagement with key stakeholders, and collaboration with other organisations.

Our experts in road safety, vehicle technology, law and travel are regularly featured in national and local newspapers, as well as on radio and television.
You can find all press releases in our press room (text in Swedish).

M Sverige and road safety

Road safety has always been a key priority for M Sverige. Our commitment began over 100 years ago and continues to this day — through driver training, public education campaigns, demands for seatbelt legislation, and bans on mobile phone use while driving, to name just a few. You can read about some of the road safety issues we are currently addressing here (text in Swedish).

M Sverige as a referral body

Before the Swedish government submits a new legislative proposal, it seeks the opinions of various stakeholders, including M Sverige. While government departments have their own subject-matter experts, on matters relating to transport policy, infrastructure, vehicles, fuels and related topics, M Sverige is an important referral body.

We respond to 20–25 government consultations each year. Many of them can be read here (text in Swedish).

M Sverige and motorists

Today, there are many important issues affecting those who depend on the car to manage both work and family life. Currently, nine out of ten journeys in Sweden are made by car, and most of those cars still run on petrol or diesel.

We work to ensure that all motorists have access to safe, secure and financially manageable travel.

At the same time, we recognise that the future will look very different for tomorrow’s car users. The negative impact of motoring on the climate and environment must be addressed, and we support the ambition of creating a fossil-independent vehicle fleet. But it is not only technology that is changing – new user models are emerging, where private car ownership is no longer the norm. This also raises new questions for our technical and legal advisory services.

M Sverige and membership benefits

The members of M Sverige are not only the foundation of our work on road safety and consumer protection – they also enjoy a range of valuable benefits. All members are entitled to free personal advice on vehicle technology, legal matters and car travel.

Membership includes M Bilresa, an insurance policy that covers, among other things, the excess on hire cars.

With M Försäkring, members can insure their vehicles, homes and leisure equipment on favourable terms.

Our members also enjoy exclusive discounts through our partners – on everything from fuel to travel, accommodation and car repairs.
